KIDS JIU JITSU
The Rutland American Jiu Jitsu Academy Kids Program is for children ages 4–12. We group kids by age and skill so everyone can learn at the right level.
Classes are about 45 minutes long and are taught by trained adult coaches in a safe and friendly place. After a short warmup, the kids learn a basic move like a clinch or a takedown then they play fun, easy-to-learn games that help them move better, stay active, and build confidence. As kids get older and move into the next group, we slowly add simple live training so they can use what they learn at the end of class.
At RAJJA, each child moves forward by showing up, trying hard, and improving at their own pace. Every student gets the chance to grow strong, confident, and ready for challenges—on and off the mats.
OUR PROGRAM SERVES KIDS 4-12 YEARS OLD
IMPROVED FOCUS
Kids participating in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu learn how to set goals, and how to do the work needed to achieve them. BJJ is a structured program with belts and patches acknowledging personal achievement. Belts display both effort, time, and experience in training. For kids under 16 years of age the belts are white, grey, yellow, orange, and green. Each belt has tested requirements (skills/knowledge) in order to be promoted to the next belt level. Kids become aware of the requirements and are encouraged to set goals, and work toward their achievement.
FITNESS
Participating in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu will improve the overall fitness level of kids who attend class regularly. It will also aid them in coordination and helps improve their performance in other sports they play. In each class, kids engage in a series of conditioning, stretching and strength exercises as part of their regular training. The program is designed so each student progresses at their own speed, and consistent training produces better muscle tone, strength and flexibility, and develops an enthusiasm for physical activity in the child.
COORDINATION
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu contains a progressive series of movements that improves coordination. Training in BJJ requires learning grappling techniques and putting them together in a string of movement. Through repetition, kids practice single movements as well as combinations, subsequently enhancing coordination through the development of mental pathways and muscle memory.
CONFIDENCE
Training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu improves confidence in children that will carry over into all venues of their lives. Through a series of challenges, kids learn how to approach new situations and successfully navigate them. Through our progressive and graduated program, we create a foundation of self-trust in and a willingness to approach challenges. Succeeding at each new stage produces the confidence needed to attack and achieve more challenging goals in the future.
SELF-ESTEEM
One of the most consistent improvements for kids training in BJJ is the development of positive self-esteem. The success that kids experience as part of their training builds a self-respect that translates into enhanced self-esteem. Kids learn to trust, respect, and like themselves for who they are. This self-esteem is strong and durable because it is based on achievement. It will positively impact how they relate to others, authority, and themselves for years to come.
SELF-DEFENSE
Kids learn valuable self-defense skills as well. Kids training in BJJ not only learn how to defend themselves in various situations, but develop the confidence that helps them to avoid many of the bully traps. Kids trained in the grappling arts learn how to avoid, evade, and escape from the many physical confrontations so common to the young.
